KIM ANN: A One Person Publishing Company Who Has Published Eleven Books In Less Than Three Years.
1. Can you start by telling me a little bit about yourself?
I am a children’s book author and live in Southern California. I am
married with two teenage children and three dogs, 1 of which has
her own book series Goldy the Puppy.
2. When did you first realize that you wanted to be an author and
when did you publish your first book? How many books you have
published so far?
I started writing poetry as a child. I knew I wanted to be an author
since I was 9 years old. I published my first book, Ruby the
Rainbow Witch: A Picture-Perfect Rainbow Day in 2018. I have 11
published books, in three book series.
3. Where do you get your inspiration from and can you tell me about
your writing schedule? Like how many hours per day do you
spend on your books?
My inspiration comes from my everyday life. It could be from
something I have seen, experienced, or sometimes an idea just
pops into my head. I write whenever an idea comes to me. I
usually jot things down or dictate into my phone. Most of my book
writing is done at night when everyone else goes to sleep. I am a
one person publishing company, so I work at least 10 hours a day
in some manner. Could be marketing, social media, emailing,
writing, researching, etc.
4.Can you tell me a little bit about your books? What do you intend to
achieve through your books ?
I have 3 published book series. Ruby the Rainbow Witch (3 books),
Goldy the Puppy (3 books), and the Go On Vacation (5 books).
They are all fun, imaginative, colorful books for ages 3-8. The main
characters are puppies, unicorns, dinosaurs, mermaids, elves, Santa,
and a friendly witch.
The Ruby series is written in prose with lots of
alliterations for a fun reading experience, and the Goldy series and the
Vacation series, are rhyming books.
5. What do you like to do when you are not writing?
When I am not writing I enjoy spending time with my family and dogs.
We love the beach, traveling, and getting exercise.
6. What have you learnt in creating your books so far?
I am constantly still learning. I also accepted that I can’t possibly do it
all, so I rely on others for things like illustrating, editing, formatting, and
whatever else comes up.
7. What advice would you give to other authors?
First, you can do it with hard work. Also, take as many classes,
webinars, and Zooms that you can. Join active author groups on
Facebook and give lots of support to others. Authors are more than
happy to help authors that support them.
8.Do you provide other services to help other authors?
I admin and volunteer in author groups, so I try to offer value where I
can.
9.How do you market your books?
Most of my advertising is on Amazon. I use social media, newsletters,
public outreach, blogs, and influencers.
10. What are your plans for the future? Do you have more publications
on the way?
I am excited about 2021! I have lots of things in the works, including
new books, a collaboration, and some additional advertising focus.
